The best free AI cartoon generator in 2026, if you want a published daily number, is Bing Image Creator: 15 free fast creations a day, up to 200 prompts in 24 hours, and you can upload a photo to cartoonize it. Adobe Firefly's free daily generations (they include Google's Nano Banana) and Fotor's preset photo-to-cartoon styles are the alternatives. When you need commercial terms or volume, Firefly Standard is US$9.99 a month, and on 8frame a cartoon image costs from 1 credit (a text-only draft) to 21 (Nano Banana Pro from your photo), about $0.01 to $0.21 at pack rate.
The free options, from their own pages
| Tool | Free allowance, as the vendor states it | The catch | Cheapest paid plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bing Image Creator | "15 free fast image creations" a day, then standard speed; "up to 200 prompts per 24-hour period" | Terms: "for entertainment purposes", no warranty that output does not infringe | No plan; Microsoft Rewards points extend fast creation |
| Adobe Firefly | "free daily generations across image, video, and audio", "Limits refresh every day" | Daily number not stated; for partner models, "You're responsible for determining whether content generated by partner models is appropriate for your project" | Standard US$9.99/month, 2,000 credits |
| Gemini app | Image generation with Nano Banana 2 is listed "Without a Google AI plan" | No number published; "Limits may change without notice"; Nano Banana Pro redo needs a Google AI plan | Not checked |
| Krea | "100 units /day" | Commercial license listed for "Basic, Pro, Max, Business, and Enterprise" plans, not Free | Basic $9/month, less on yearly billing ("Save 40% on yearly plans") |
| Ideogram | "30 credits each week if they sign in with Google, Apple or Microsoft" | "On the free plan, everything you generate is public" | Plus $20/month, or $15/month ($180 a year), 2,400 credits |
| Fotor | Plan table: "Limited Free credits"; "Earn free daily credits in Fotor reward center" | No number published | Paid prices did not load in the page we could read |
For photo to cartoon, Bing (it edits uploads on MAI-Image-2.5-Flash) and Fotor ("54+ cartoon styles" as presets) say on the pages we checked that they take your photo. ChatGPT is left out because we could not read OpenAI's current free image limit.
A cartoon of a real person is still a picture of that person
The consent rules below are written about people, not about photorealism, so cartoonizing a friend, a coworker or a celebrity does not move you outside them.
- Bing Image Creator's help page: "You may only upload images of people with their consent" and "Do not share images of others without their consent." Bing's terms also bar inputting "photographs or video/audio recordings of others taken without their consent for the processing of an individual's biometric identifiers, biometric information, or for any other purpose."
- Google's Generative AI Prohibited Use Policy bars "Impersonating an individual (living or dead) without explicit disclosure, in order to deceive" and "using personal data or biometrics without legally-required consent".
- Adobe's Generative AI User Guidelines prohibit creating, uploading or sharing content "that violates third-party copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights".
The precise point: Bing's rule attaches to the upload, before any style is applied, so a flat-colour, big-eyed version of a face needs the same consent as the photo it came from. Use your own photo, or get a yes from the person in it (from a parent or guardian for a child).
"In the style of": what the rules actually say
OpenAI wrote in its March 2025 system card addendum for native image generation: "We added a refusal which triggers when a user attempts to generate an image in the style of a living artist." That rule is about a living person's name. It is not permission to copy a studio's characters.
Adobe lists as prohibited examples "entering text prompts designed to generate copyrighted, trademarked, or otherwise infringing content" and "uploading an input or reference image that includes a third party's copyrighted content".
Fotor offers presets named after shows and brands, including "Simpson Style", "South Park Style", "Rick And Morty", "Lego Toy" and "Funko Pop Style". A preset is a look the app offers, not a licence from the rights holder. Before a cartoon in one of those looks goes on merchandise or an ad, that question belongs to the rights holder.
The working rule: describe the technique (flat colour, thick black outline, oversized head, limited palette, halftone shading) and leave out names of shows, studios and living artists.
How to make a cartoon on 8frame
Prices from 8frame's pricing code; a credit is about $0.01 at pack rate. Plans start at $19 for 1,000 credits.
| Job | Model | Credits per image |
|---|---|---|
| Fast character drafts from text (no image input) | Pruna p-image | 1 |
| Character from text | FLUX.2 [pro] | 5 |
| Character from text | Seedream 5 Lite (the Seedream node opens on 5 Pro, 7 at 1K) | 6 |
| Photo to cartoon, with 1 to 10 reference images | GPT Image 2, low / medium / high (opens on high) | 2 / 6 to 8 / 20 to 29 |
| Photo to cartoon, up to 10 reference images | Nano Banana 2 at 1K (the node's starting model) | 11 |
| Photo to cartoon on the Pro model | Nano Banana Pro, 1K or 2K (42 at 4K) | 21 |
| Cartoon with a name or lettering | Ideogram 4.5, low / medium / high (a source image plus up to 4 references) | 5 / 9 / 30 |
- Start from a photo you are allowed to use. Upload it to the Nano Banana node as a reference.
- Describe the look, not a name. "Flat cel shading, thick outline, two-tone background" gives you a look without borrowing a name.
- Compare with the photo. Check the likeness, hands and any text. Run a few takes on Nano Banana 2 before a Pro one.
- Lock the design. Keep one approved image and use it as the reference for every next pose, so each one starts from the same design.
- Animate it. Send the approved still to a video model as the start image: Pruna p-video Draft is 4 credits for 5 seconds at 720p, Wan 3.0 at 480p is 24. The full video workflow is in best free AI cartoon video generators.
A worked example: twenty character drafts on p-image (20 credits), ten design passes on Seedream 5 Lite (60) and five photo-to-cartoon versions of one approved portrait on Nano Banana 2 at 1K (55) come to 135 credits, about $1.35, before re-runs. Output carries no watermark on any plan, and commercial use is cleared on paid plans. FAQ
What is the best AI cartoon generator?
For free use with a published limit, Bing Image Creator: 15 fast creations a day, with photo uploads. Inside Adobe tools, Firefly's daily generations; for presets, Fotor. For commercial work at volume, a paid plan: Firefly Standard is US$9.99 a month, Krea Basic $9, and 8frame images cost from 1 credit each.
Is there a free AI cartoon generator with no watermark?
Bing Image Creator lets you choose whether to add a visible watermark and change that preference at any time. 8frame output has no watermark on any plan, though generation there is paid.
Can I turn a photo of someone else into a cartoon?
Only with their consent. Bing says "You may only upload images of people with their consent", and the rule applies whatever style you ask for. For a child, ask a parent or guardian.
Can I ask for a cartoon in the style of a studio or an artist?
OpenAI refuses prompts "in the style of a living artist", and Adobe prohibits prompts designed to generate copyrighted or trademarked content. Describe the technique instead of naming a show, studio or artist, and do not reproduce existing characters.
Can I use a free AI cartoon commercially?
Check the plan. Krea lists its commercial license from Basic up, Ideogram's free images are public, and Bing's terms call the service "for entertainment purposes". On 8frame, commercial use is cleared on paid plans.
How do I animate my cartoon?
Use the approved still as the start image of a short clip. Pruna p-video Draft on 8frame is 4 credits for 5 seconds at 720p. See best free AI cartoon video generators.
