The best free AI lyric video maker in 2026 depends on one thing: whether the tool writes and times the lyrics for you. Kapwing does both on its free plan ("Kapwing can automatically generate subtitles, writing the song lyrics out for you") with unlimited exports that carry a watermark, at 720p, up to 4 minutes. CapCut's auto-lyrics "supports recognition of lyrics in 8 languages". Canva Free exports MP4 "up to 30 minutes" at 1080p, but you type and time the lyrics yourself. Rotor syncs lyrics with AI and lets you preview for free, but you pay to download. 8frame does not transcribe songs; it is where you make the visuals (and, if you need one, the song from your own lyrics: 5 credits on MiniMax Music v2).
A lyric video has three parts: the song, the words on screen at the right moment, and the pictures behind them. Free tools differ most on the second part. Auto-sync tools listen to the song and place each line for you; manual tools make you paste the lyrics and set every time stamp, which takes much longer on a 3-minute song.

The picks
Kapwing: auto lyrics on the free plan
Kapwing's lyric tool says you can "Manually add text or generate subtitles automatically to add the lyrics to your video", and "Kapwing can automatically generate subtitles, writing the song lyrics out for you." You "Upload your song to the editor directly from your device or by copying and pasting the audio URL link." Its free plan lists "10 credits", "Unlimited exports with a watermark", "Export videos up to 4 minutes long", "720p video quality" and "Auto-subtitling (up to 10 mins)". Pro removes the watermark, exports in 4K and up to 2 hours, and starts at $16 a month for 1,000 credits. Kapwing does "not currently offer a free trial" of its paid plans.
Pick it if: you want the words timed for you, free, and a watermark is fine for a first upload or a demo.
CapCut: auto lyrics, no watermark on hand edits
CapCut's own guide says its "auto-lyrics feature allows you to generate lyrics automatically, and it supports recognition of lyrics in 8 languages". Its help pages say "When you edit manually ... you can export the final video without any watermark", but "watermark removal on videos using Pro materials always requires Pro, regardless of resolution", and that the free export length limit "varies by region". CapCut's sister tool Pippit has an "Auto Lyrics option" that recognises "the audio in your video". CapCut's pricing page says "Displayed pricing is for reference only" and showed us euros, so we don't quote a price.
Pick it if: you edit on a phone, want auto lyrics, and can avoid Pro templates and effects.
Canva: the longest free export, timing by hand
Canva's help centre says "Canva Free users can download the following video files: MP4 videos up to 30 minutes in length", at "the default MP4 quality (1080p)". A watermark appears only when you use premium elements on the free plan, where you can "download a watermarked draft". There is no auto-sync: you place each lyric line on the timeline yourself. Watch the music rules: "Popular music is currently not available to ... free accounts", popular tracks "can't be used for any commercial purpose", and "Canva conducts audio fingerprint checks for music uploaded by users."
Pick it if: you want a clean 1080p file of a full song and don't mind timing the lines by hand.
Specterr, LyricEdits, Rotor and Neural Frames: one free video, then pay
- Specterr: "Type in or paste your lyrics. Set time stamps using the lyric editor." Free: "1 videos / day", "720p 30fps", "5 minute videos", "Watermark on videos", "Videos expire in 10 days".
- LyricEdits: "Our AI will transcribe the lyrics of your song automatically", for songs "up to 20 minutes". Free: "each free account can export (download) one video in total, in 720p with a watermark". Its homepage says "No watermarks", which applies to paid exports. Creator is $39 a month for 2,000 credits, or one-time credits from $15.
- Rotor: "Our AI-powered tool will auto-sync your lyrics to the track and handle the editing for you." Previews cost nothing ("as many times as you like before downloading"), then you pay: a lyric video download is 4 Rotor credits, and its unlimited plan starts at $9.99 a month. Rotor says videos are "100% yours to own, distribute, and use commercially" and "completely watermark-free".
- Neural Frames: "Review the extracted lyrics and correct any misheard words before creating your video." It warns that its lyrics are "an artistic in-scene text workflow, not a conventional subtitle overlay", so don't expect karaoke-style word highlighting. Its pricing page has no free plan; the cheapest is $26 a month billed yearly ($39 monthly).
The copyright line
A lyric video uses two works: the recording and the song itself. The US Copyright Office: "A musical work is a song's underlying composition along with any accompanying lyrics", and the recording and the lyrics "are separate copyright-protected works ... commonly owned and licensed separately." So typing out someone else's lyrics needs permission too, not only the audio.
- On YouTube, "When a video is uploaded to YouTube, it's automatically scanned by Content ID", and a claimed song can leave your video "muted or ... entirely unavailable". YouTube's own myth list: "Just because you purchased content doesn't mean you own the rights to upload or distribute it", and phrases like "I do not own" "don't automatically mean you're making fair use".
- Covers and translations "usually still" require "the copyright owner's permission".
- Your own song is the safe case. Rotor and Neural Frames both ask that you hold the rights to the music you upload.
Where 8frame fits
8frame is not an auto-sync lyric tool, and we say so: its Video Editor's "Generate captions" turns a pasted script into a caption layer timed at an estimated 160 words per minute. It does not listen to the song, so sung lines (held notes, pauses, choruses) will not land on the beat by themselves, and there is no SRT export. What 8frame does well is the rest of the lyric video: the song, if you wrote the words, and the pictures behind them.
| Step | Tool on 8frame | Credits |
|---|---|---|
| Song from your own lyrics (10 to 3,000 characters) | MiniMax Music v2 | 5 per song |
| A still for each verse or chorus | Nano Banana 2, 1K | 11 per image |
| A moving background loop | Grok Imagine, 5 s at 720p from a still | 48 |
| A cheaper motion test | Pruna p-video Draft, 5 s at 720p | 4 |
| Lyrics, song and clips on one timeline | Video Editor mode (sound and caption layers) | No generation |
A worked example for a 3-minute song you wrote: the song on MiniMax Music v2 (5), six stills for verses and choruses (66) and four 5-second Grok loops for the chorus (192) is 263 credits, about $2.63 at pack rate. Then lay the song, the clips and the lyrics on the Video Editor timeline, and check each line against the vocal; for word-accurate timing, run the finished track through one of the auto-sync tools above for the text and keep 8frame's visuals.
Two warnings from how the tools work. Don't use the Montage node to assemble the video: it joins 2 to 10 clips for 10 credits but the merged file has no sound, so the song must go on the Video Editor timeline. And don't ask a video model to write the lyrics inside the shot; add the words as a text or caption layer, where you can fix a typo. We have priced these tools but not measured their output on 8frame, so we quote prices, not quality. Failed generations are refunded automatically. 8frame output has no watermark on any plan, and commercial use is cleared on paid plans; the rights to the song are still yours to have. Getting a clean lyric video, on any tool
- Paste clean lyrics, even with auto-sync. Neural Frames tells you to "correct any misheard words"; every transcriber mishears some.
- One line on screen at a time on a phone screen, large type, high contrast, away from the bottom edge where the app's own buttons sit.
- Check the chorus. Repeated lines are where auto-sync tools most often drift, so watch every chorus before you export.
- Match the format to the platform: 9:16 for Shorts, Reels and WhatsApp status, 16:9 for a YouTube lyric video.
- Test with 30 seconds before exporting the whole song, especially on tools that count exports.
