A storyboard in 2026 costs somewhere between a few dollars and several thousand, and the spread is entirely about who makes it and at what fidelity. Generated on 8frame, a 10-frame board runs 60 to 210 credits, which is $0.60 to $2.10 at pack rate, or 84 credits as two ShotGrid contact sheets. Commissioned from a freelance storyboard artist, the same board is quoted per frame or by the day, with rough thumbnails at the low end and full-color finished frames well above that. Booked through an agency it usually appears as a line item bundled with concepting rather than as a per-frame price.

What actually drives the price
Fidelity. Thumbnails that communicate blocking cost a fraction of full-color frames that communicate look. Most disputes about storyboard pricing are actually disputes about which one was ordered.
Frame count. A 30-second ad is 8 to 12 frames. A 2-minute brand film can be 40 or more. Cost scales close to linearly on the human side, and exactly linearly on the AI side.
Revisions. The expensive part of a commissioned board. Every round is a re-draw. This is the line item where AI boards diverge most sharply, since a revision is a re-generation rather than a re-draw.
Whether it needs to be on-model. A board that has to feature a real product, a real spokesperson, or a licensed character costs more in both worlds, because consistency is the hard part.

ShotGrid (beta) returns nine frames in one 4K image from a prompt and 1 to 10 reference images, in 1:1, 9:16 or 16:9, so one prompt gives you a first pass of a whole board at about 4.7 credits a frame.
The $19 Starter plan carries 1,000 credits a month, so a month covers several boards including revisions. The honest caveat: these numbers are the generation cost, not the total cost. Somebody still has to write the shot list, judge the frames, and reject the ones that missed. That labor is the real budget line, and it does not go to zero.
Where a commissioned board still wins
An artist is worth paying for when the board is a deliverable in its own right (pitch material for a director, a document that has to communicate performance and comedy timing), when the style is specific to a human hand, or when consistency across 40 frames of the same character matters more than speed. Character consistency across a long board is the current weak point of generated frames; reference-conditioned models help, but check every frame.
The pattern most teams land on: generate the board to find the structure, then commission only if the finished board itself is the product being sold.
