When a result does not look like the model you had in mind, the usual reason is that each tool on 8frame opens on one model of its family, and that model is not always the one people expect. The Veo tool opens on Veo 3.1 Fast, not Standard. Nano Banana opens on Nano Banana 2, not Pro. The Kling tool opens on Kling v3 Standard, which needs a start image. None of this changes on its own: every new node starts from its tool's default, and the model picker on the node shows which one it is.
TL;DR
- Read the model name on the node before you generate, and the credit price shown before you run it.
- Veo opens on Fast (168 credits for 8 s with sound). Standard is 448, Lite 54. Through the MCP connector the Veo default is Standard.
- Kling opens on v3 Standard, image-to-video only. For a text-only Kling prompt, switch to Kling 2.6 Pro.
- Nano Banana opens on "2". "Pro" is Nano Banana Pro; the option labelled "Standard" is the older Nano Banana Classic.
- Clips always renders on Seedance 2.5 at 720p, and opens on a 15-second Brand ad preset.

The five surprises that matter
1. "Veo" means Veo 3.1 Fast on the canvas
The Veo tool starts on Veo 3.1 Fast at 8 seconds with sound: 168 credits. If you wanted Google's top tier, switch to Standard (448); for cheap drafts, Lite (54, 720p). Through the MCP connector it is the other way round: a Veo request without a model is Standard, 448. If you generate from both places, check which tier each one used.
2. Kling v3 will not run from text alone
The Kling tool opens on Kling v3 Standard, which on 8frame is image-to-video only. A prompt with no start image will not generate on it. For text-only Kling, switch to Kling 2.6 Pro: 95 credits for 5 seconds with sound, 47 silent. Kling O3 needs a start image too. The image rules are in Kling image-to-video upload requirements.
3. Nano Banana's picker labels
The Nano Banana node offers "2", "Pro" and "Standard". It opens on "2", Nano Banana 2 (11 credits at 1K). "Pro" is Nano Banana Pro (21 at 1K and 2K, 42 at 4K). "Standard" is not a middle tier: it is Nano Banana Classic, the oldest of the three, at 6. Through the MCP connector the Nano Banana tool is always Classic.
4. Defaults that pick the expensive setting
Two image and video defaults sit at the top of their price range:
- Wan 3.0 opens at 1080p: 95 credits for 5 seconds, against 24 at 480p.
- GPT Image 2 opens on high quality: 29 credits for a square image, against 2 on low.
Neither is wrong for a final, but both cost more than a draft needs. More in why are my credits going so fast.
5. Clips does not let you choose the model
Clips writes the script and renders the video on Seedance 2.5 at 720p; there is no model picker. What you choose is the length (5, 10, 15, 20 or 30 seconds) and the shape (Auto, 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9). It opens on the Brand ad preset at 15 seconds, which costs 500 credits; a 5-second clip is 200. If you need a different model, use Studio or the canvas.
How to check before you generate
- Read the model name on the node or in Studio.
- Check the credit price shown before you generate. A number far above what you expected usually means a high default (1080p, high quality, Standard tier).
- Change the model first, then the settings. Lengths, resolutions and sound options differ by model, so set them after switching.
- On a new node, check again. A new node starts from the tool's default, not from the settings of the node next to it.
FAQ
Why is my Veo video not Veo 3.1 Standard? The Veo tool on the canvas opens on Veo 3.1 Fast. Switch the model to Standard on the node; it costs 448 credits for 8 seconds with sound, against 168 for Fast.
Why won't my Kling prompt generate without an image? The Kling tool opens on Kling v3 Standard, which only does image-to-video on 8frame. Add a start image, or switch to Kling 2.6 Pro for text-to-video.
What is "Standard" in the Nano Banana picker? Nano Banana Classic, the oldest model of the three, at 6 credits. The default is Nano Banana 2; Pro is a separate option.
Which model does Clips use? Seedance 2.5 at 720p, for every clip. You choose the length and shape, not the model.
Does 8frame switch models without telling me? A node runs the model shown on it. Some models switch mode based on what you attach (a reference video on Seedance, for example, moves it to a higher price tier), but the usual surprise is simply the default a tool opens on.
