An upload on 8frame is refused for one of six reasons: the file is too large, the format is not accepted, the image is too small or too large in pixels, the same file is already in your uploads, or too many uploads arrived in one minute. Each has its own message, and each has a fix that takes a minute. An upload that goes through can still be refused later by the model you feed it to; that is a different check, covered at the end.
TL;DR
- Images and audio: up to 50 MB. Video: up to 100 MB.
- Image formats: PNG, JPG/JPEG, WebP, GIF, AVIF and BMP. Not HEIC, the iPhone's default photo format.
- Image size in pixels: at least 64 by 64, at most 6,144 by 6,144. A photo from a phone's highest-resolution mode can be wider than that.
- Video formats: MP4, MOV and WebM (M4V and GIF also work where a node takes a video clip). Audio: MP3 or WAV.
- Video uploads need an account. Images can be uploaded before you sign up.
The messages and what they mean
| Message | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "File is too large. Please choose a smaller file." | Image or audio over 50 MB, or video over 100 MB | Export a smaller file or trim the video |
| "Only supported media files are allowed (images, videos, audio)" or "Invalid file format. Please choose a supported file type." | A format the upload does not take, such as HEIC | Convert to JPG or PNG (images), MP4 (video), MP3 or WAV (audio) |
| "Image must be at least 64x64 pixels" | A tiny image, such as an icon or a thumbnail | Use a larger original |
| "Image must be no larger than 6144x6144 pixels" | A very high-resolution photo or render | Resize or crop below 6,144 pixels on the long side |
| "This file has already been uploaded" | The identical file is already in your uploads | Pick it from your uploaded media instead |
| "Only MP4, MOV, WEBM, M4V, or GIF files are supported." | A video in another format, dropped into a video slot | Convert to MP4 |
| "Please upload an audio file (MP3 or WAV)" | A different audio format in an audio slot | Convert to MP3 or WAV |
| "Maximum 10 images per drop. Only first 10 will be uploaded." | More than 10 images dropped on the canvas at once | Drop the rest in a second batch |
1. The file is too large
The upload takes images and audio up to 50 MB each, and video files up to 100 MB. A phone photo is almost never near 50 MB, so this usually means a long video or an uncompressed audio file.
Fix: for video, trim it to the part you need or export at a lower bitrate; most AI video inputs only use a few seconds anyway. For audio, export as MP3. How long a clip each video model accepts is in edit an existing video with AI.
2. The format is not accepted, usually HEIC
The image upload takes PNG, JPG/JPEG, WebP, GIF, AVIF and BMP. The most common refused file is HEIC, which iPhones and iPads use by default. Apple's own setting fixes it for new photos: Settings, Camera, Formats, Most Compatible, after which, per Apple, "All new photos and videos will now use JPEG or H.264 format." For photos you already have, export or share them as JPEG first.
Other refused formats: TIFF, RAW files from cameras, PSD, and SVG. Export them as PNG or JPG.
3. The image is too small or too large in pixels
Uploads must be at least 64 by 64 pixels and at most 6,144 by 6,144. The upper limit catches photos taken in a phone's highest-resolution mode and large renders; the lower one catches icons and thumbnails.
Fix: resize the long side below 6,144 pixels in any photo app, or switch the camera to its standard resolution. A smaller file also uploads faster on mobile data.
Passing the upload check is not the end: each model has its own minimum. Veo 3.1 needs a start image of at least 1280 by 720, and most other models want 300 to 512 pixels a side. The per-model table is in AI image upload limits by model.
4. The same file is already uploaded
8frame recognises an identical file and refuses the second copy with "This file has already been uploaded". Nothing is wrong with the file.
Fix: open your uploaded media and pick it from there.
5. Video and audio slots are stricter
- Video goes up as MP4, MOV or WebM. Where a node takes a video clip as input, M4V and GIF also work. Video uploads need a signed-in account.
- Audio goes up as MP3 or WAV on the canvas. In Clips, the music track takes MP3, WAV or MPEG up to 12 MB, and "Audio longer than 0:15 is auto-trimmed to fit the music-video model."
Fix: convert other formats (MKV, AVI, M4A, OGG, FLAC) to MP4 or MP3 before uploading.
6. Too many uploads in a minute
The upload accepts up to 20 files a minute from one connection. Past that, uploads are refused until the minute is over. You will only meet this when uploading a large batch.
Fix: wait a minute and continue.
When the upload worked but the generation did not
An upload that went through can still be refused by the model. The usual reasons:
- Below the model's minimum size (Veo 3.1 needs 1280 by 720). See Veo 3.1 image-to-video requirements.
- A model that needs a start image, such as Kling v3, given only text. See Kling image-to-video upload requirements.
- A content filter refusing the image. See AI generation refusal messages, decoded.
A refused generation costs nothing: the credits come back automatically.
FAQ
What file types can I upload to 8frame? Images as PNG, JPG/JPEG, WebP, GIF, AVIF or BMP; video as MP4, MOV or WebM; audio as MP3 or WAV.
Why won't my iPhone photo upload? It is most likely HEIC. Set Settings, Camera, Formats to Most Compatible, or export the photo as JPEG.
What is the maximum upload size? 50 MB for an image or an audio file, 100 MB for a video.
Why does it say my image is too large when the file is small? The limit is also in pixels: 6,144 by 6,144 at most. Resize the long side below that.
Can I upload without an account? Images, yes. Video uploads need you to be signed in.
