Seedance also switches its own audio off when you attach a reference audio track, so your soundtrack is not layered with a generated one. Happy Horse's video edit can keep the original clip's sound, and Hailuo H3's lip-sync mode takes an audio track as input; neither generates sound of its own on 8frame.
What this means in practice
Drafting on Veo or Kling? Switch the sound off. You pay for audio on every rejected attempt. On Veo 3.1 Lite a silent 8-second draft is 33 credits against 54 with sound; rerun only the winner with audio.
On Seedance and Wan 3.0 Prime, keep it on. The price is the same, so there is nothing to save by turning it off, unless you know the track will be replaced.
On Grok Imagine and Gemini Omni Flash, you pay for sound regardless. Pick them when you want sound; if the audio will be muted, a model that charges less for silence is the better draft.
