Yes. The models do the heavy work on the provider's servers, so a phone only has to send a prompt or a photo and play back the result. What limits you on a phone is the interface, not the processing power. The cut-off is screen width: under 768 pixels, the canvas and the editor show a desktop notice. Most phones are under that. Most tablets in landscape are over it, so a tablet gets the full canvas; whether you want to wire nodes by touch is another question.
Starting on a phone
- Open Clips in the phone's browser. No app to install and no account needed to start.
- Describe the video you want. A sentence is enough to begin; the agent develops the script and the shot list from it.
- Sign up to generate. The script and the video run on paid models, so this is where you create an account. The clip you started is kept.
- Pick a plan to generate. Plans start at $19/month for 1,000 credits. A 5-second Wan 3.0 clip at 480p is 24 credits, so a first test does not use much of that.
Photos from your phone
HEIC. iPhones save photos as HEIC by default, and the 8frame upload does not take it. Apple's fix is Settings, Camera, Formats, Most Compatible, which saves new photos as JPEG (Apple support, checked 2026-09-28).
Size is rarely a problem. Phone photos upload fine, and anything over a model's file limit is resized for it. What can stop a run is an image that is too small, such as a cropped screenshot: Veo 3.1 needs at least 1280 by 720. The per-model list is in upload limits by model.
Faces. If you are using a selfie as a reference on Seedance, frame it from the waist up. A close-up face is the most reliable way to get it rejected; see Seedance "flagged as sensitive" (E005).
Shape for where it will be watched
If the video is for Reels, TikTok, Shorts or WhatsApp Status, make it 9:16 from the start rather than cropping a landscape clip. A vertical start image helps too: some image-to-video models take their output shape from the start image (Hailuo H3 does), and Veo 3.1 crops anything that is not 16:9 or 9:16. What a phone does not change
