Coming soon on 8frame. The Library described below, one index for your files, saved prompts, styles, characters, brands and apps, reachable from every board, is not released yet. This page covers why AI assets get lost, how to organise and reuse them on 8frame today, and what the Library will do when it ships. No date is announced.
AI makes assets fast and in volume. A single afternoon on a campaign can leave dozens of stills, a handful of clips, the prompts that worked, the prompts that almost worked, and a character the client liked. A week later someone needs "the teal version from the Tuesday board", and nobody can find it. The cost is not storage. It is the rework: generating again what the team already had.
Why AI assets get lost
- They are scattered by tool. Each model's site or chat keeps its own history, and the history belongs to one person.
- The useful part is not the file. What a team wants to reuse is often the prompt, the reference set or the character, not the PNG.
- Boards end. A finished project's board is the last place anyone looks when starting the next one.
- Names do not survive downloads. "image (14).png" says nothing about the model, the brief or the approval.
General advice on structure is in how to organize creative assets. The rest of this page is about AI work on 8frame.
How to keep and reuse AI work on 8frame today
The reliable ways to carry work from one board to the next today are templates and duplicated boards.
- Keep a starter board per client or brand. Approved images, the logo and the reference sets, uploaded once. Put the prompts that worked in comments beside the nodes that used them.
- Publish it as a template. As the board owner, use Publish as template. Later changes go back into the original with Publish update. Templates are listed at /workflows.
- Start new work from a copy. Duplicate workflow copies a board with or without its outputs, so a new campaign begins with the same references and node setup and none of the old results.
- Download originals when files leave the board. The download menu offers Small, Medium and Large previews and Original, the stored file. Rename on download with the brief and the stage.
- Remember that access is per board. There is no public share link: a board is visible to its owner, invited collaborators and, if published, as a template. Inviting collaborators needs a Creator plan (up to 3 members) or an Agency plan (up to 30).
For handing reusable setups to colleagues, see sharing AI workflows with your team.
What is coming: the Library
The Library will be one index of everything you can put on a board, with two faces: a full page for browsing and a drawer on the board for working.
What it will hold
- Files: your uploads, generations, documents and audio, with filters such as kind, date, model and board.
- Saved: prompts, snippets, styles, characters and presets.
- Brands: your brand kits (see brand kits for AI image and video generation).
- Apps: tool apps such as Relight and Retexture, and project apps such as Clips.
- Templates.
- Agents, once agents ship, so a team can share its agents across the organisation.
Saving from the board
You will be able to bookmark a prompt from a node, and save a selection as a style or as a character, alongside the preset and snippet saves. Each saved item will show a thumbnail where it has one.
Using it on a board
The Library drawer will open beside the left rail on the board and stay open while you work. From it you will be able to:
- Insert an item at the centre of the screen, selected and ready.
- Drag an item onto empty canvas, or onto a node's input to attach it there, for example dropping a saved character straight into an image generator as a reference.
- Insert several at once, grouped in a frame on the board.
The same items will also appear in the «+» catalog of the bottom panel and in the right-click menu, under your own things, with recently placed items first. On the Library page, «Open on a board» will take an item to a board you choose.
Search that tells you where to look
Search will work across sections. If nothing in Files matches, the Library is designed to say so and point to matches in another section, such as Saved, in one line.
Roles
Viewers on a board will be able to browse but not insert. Brand creation in an organisation will be for owners and admins.
A naming habit worth starting now
Whatever tool you use, three habits make a future library useful:
- Name boards by client, campaign and month.
- Keep the winning prompt next to its result in a comment, with who approved it.
- Keep one reference set per character or product, and reuse it rather than rebuilding it.
When the Library ships, those boards, prompts and reference sets are exactly the items you will want to save into it.
FAQ
Is there a shared Library on 8frame today?
The Library described here is coming soon. Today, reuse work across boards with templates (Publish as template, Publish update) and Duplicate workflow, with or without outputs.
What will I be able to save to the Library?
Files (uploads, generations, documents, audio), prompts, snippets, styles, characters, presets, brands, apps, templates and, later, agents.
Will I be able to drag items from the Library into a node?
Yes, that is the plan: drag onto empty canvas to place, or onto a node's input to attach the item there.
Who will see my Library items?
Your own items are yours; organisation items such as brands and agents are planned to be shared across the organisation. Viewers will be able to browse but not insert.
Is there a release date?
No date is announced. This page will be updated when the Library is live.
