Correction, 2026-10-01: this page said Veo reads direction more literally than any model we host, that its audio sits better with the picture, and that Kling's motion reads as more energetic. Those were impressions, not measurements, so they are gone. It also said going silent halves the bill on either model (it cuts a third off Kling v3 and Veo Fast, about 40 percent off Lite, half off Veo 3.1 Standard) and did not say that Kling v3 on 8frame needs a start image or that the Veo tool opens on Veo 3.1 Fast. The worked example now includes the stills Kling v3 needs.
Use Kling v3 Standard for volume when you have the frames, and Veo 3.1 Standard for the shot the piece depends on. The reason is one number: on the 8frame canvas a 5-second Kling v3 clip with audio is 86 credits and an 8-second Veo 3.1 Standard clip with audio is 448. The other difference is how they start: Kling v3 on 8frame animates a start image, while Veo runs from a prompt alone. A new Veo node opens on Veo 3.1 Fast (168), so switch to Standard for the hero shot.

Where Veo 3.1 wins
Text-only starts. Veo runs from a prompt alone; Kling v3 needs a start image on 8frame. With a start image, Veo is fixed at 8 seconds.
1080p. Veo 3.1 and Fast render 1080p on 8frame; the Kling v3 Standard files we measured are 720p.
The Lite tier. At 54 credits for 8 seconds with audio, Veo 3.1 Lite is cheaper per second than Kling v3 with audio (6.75 against 17.2), at 720p. It makes a cheap drafting tier for a prompt you will finish on Veo; check the final on the tier you deliver.
Where Kling v3 wins
Cost at volume. 86 against 448 is not a close call when you need fifteen variants.
Duration flexibility. Kling takes any integer from 3 to 15 seconds and bills per second; Veo 3.1 works at 4, 6 or 8. If your edit needs 7 seconds, one of these gives it to you.
The routing that uses both
Draft on Veo 3.1 Lite at 33 credits silent until the prompt is right. Produce the volume on Kling v3 Standard from stills (it needs a start image; a Seedream 5 Lite still is 6 credits). Render the one or two shots the piece hangs on with Veo 3.1 Standard.
A 30-second piece done this way: ten Lite drafts (330), six Seedream 5 Lite stills (36), six Kling finals with audio (516), two Veo Standard heroes (896). Around 1,778 credits, about $18. Producing all eight finals on Veo Standard instead would be roughly 3,600.

Which is better, Veo 3.1 or Kling v3? We have not measured it. Kling v3 for volume when you have the frames; Veo for text-only starts and 1080p. The price gap is about five to one per clip, so the question is usually which shots deserve Veo rather than which model is better.
Can Kling v3 run from a prompt alone? Not on 8frame: Kling v3 Standard and Pro need a start image. From text, use Kling 2.6 Pro (95 credits for 5 seconds with sound, 47 silent) or Veo.
Is Veo 3.1 Lite good enough to ship? For social and b-roll at 720p, frequently yes. For a homepage hero, use the full tier.
