Why Is My AI Generation Stuck? What a Long Wait Means and When It Fails

Your AI video has been generating for minutes. The five reasons a run looks stuck, from slow models and the 10-at-once limit to provider delays, what 8frame does with a run that stops moving, and when your credits come back.

A generation that looks stuck is usually a slow model doing normal work: some video models take five minutes or more for a single clip. When a run really does stop moving, it does not hang on 8frame forever. A check runs every five minutes, asks the provider what happened, and either collects the finished file or marks the run failed and returns the credits automatically. So the useful question is not "is it stuck?" but "is this model slow, or is something else holding it?"

TL;DR

1. The model is slow, not stuck

Generation time depends on the model far more than on your connection or device. Measured on 8frame (median, and the time one run in ten exceeds):

Model and clip Median One in ten takes longer than
Gemini Omni Flash, 720p, 3 to 5 s clips 35 s 46 s
Kling v3 Standard, 720p, 5 s 60 s 156 s
Kling 2.6 Pro, 1080p, 5 s 74 s 112 s
Seedance 2.5, 720p, 5 s 287 s 388 s
Hailuo H3, 2K, 15 s 343 s 751 s
Seedance 2.0 with a video input, 720p, 10 s 402 s 456 s
Nano Banana 2 image 26 s 36 s
GPT Image 2 image 120 s 184 s

If your Seedance clip has been running for four minutes, that is the typical case, not a fault. The full table is in how long AI video generation takes.

Fix: wait at least as long as the "one in ten" column for that model before you assume anything went wrong. For quick drafts, use a faster model and keep the slow one for the final take.

2. It is waiting for a plan, not for the model

If you start a generation without an active plan, 8frame does not send it. The pricing window opens, and the generation is kept as "Queued · needs a plan" with the line "Your generation is queued. Subscribe to run it." Nothing reaches the provider and no credits are taken. The queued generation is kept in that browser for 24 hours and runs once the payment goes through; you can also choose "Remove from queue". Details in why won't my AI generation start.

Fix: pick a plan, or remove the queued item.

3. You already have 10 running

8frame counts your active generations, the ones waiting to start and the ones running, and allows 10 at a time on every plan. The next one is refused before any credits are taken, with the message "Limit reached: 10 active tasks, please wait for some to finish." A bigger plan does not raise the limit or move you up the queue: the queue is ordered by tool type, not by plan. Generations started through the MCP connector count toward the same 10.

Ten slow clips can fill every slot for several minutes. If you also want quick image drafts, start fewer long clips at once.

Fix: wait for one to finish or fail; its slot frees up straight away.

4. The provider is slow or has a problem

Every model runs on its provider's infrastructure. When a provider has an incident, runs take longer or never report back. 8frame handles this on its side:

A failed run usually shows the message "Sensitive content detected. Please try changing your prompt or image." even when the cause was a provider outage, so do not read it as a verdict on your prompt. Why did my AI generation fail has the checklist.

Fix: if the same prompt keeps failing on one model while another model works, it is most likely the provider. Switch models or try later.

5. Clips is past its estimate

Clips shows a countdown while your video renders, then "Almost done", then "Taking longer than usual..." once the estimate has passed. That last line means the estimate was short, not that the clip failed. Clips videos render on Seedance 2.5, so the times in the table above apply. You can ask Clips to "Email me when this clip is ready" and close the page.

Through the MCP connector, a generation waits inline for up to 10 minutes; after that you get a task ID and can check on it later instead of waiting.

What to do, in order

  1. Check the model's typical time in the table. Under the "one in ten" figure, keep waiting.
  2. Look for "Queued · needs a plan". If you see it, the generation has not started.
  3. Count your active generations. At 10, new ones are refused.
  4. Close the tab if you need to. The run continues on the servers, and the result is waiting when you come back.
  5. If it failed, the credits are already back. Try a different model with the same prompt to tell a provider problem from a prompt problem.

FAQ

Why is my AI video taking so long? Usually because the model is slow. On 8frame a 5-second Seedance 2.5 clip at 720p takes about five minutes at the median, while Gemini Omni Flash returns short clips in about 35 seconds.

Does a stuck generation cost credits? Not if it fails. When 8frame marks a run failed, including one the provider never finished, the credits return automatically.

Can I close the browser while it generates? Yes. The generation runs on 8frame's and the provider's servers, not in your browser.

Does a paid plan make generations faster? No. Every plan has the same limit of 10 active generations, and the queue is ordered by tool type, not by plan.

What does "Queued · needs a plan" mean? The generation is waiting for a plan. It has not been sent to a model and has not cost anything.
