If a generation on 8frame will not start, the cause is almost always on the account side, not the model: there is no active plan, the plan has run out of credits, a payment did not go through, or 10 generations are already running. Each shows its own message, and none of them costs you anything: a generation that does not start takes no credits. This page goes through the messages, then the card problems that most often hit people paying from outside the US.
TL;DR
- "Queued · needs a plan": generating needs an active plan. Your generation is held, not lost, and nothing has been charged.
- "Not enough credits, top up to continue": the plan is active but the balance is too low for this run. Credit packs can be added to an active plan.
- "Payment Failed", "Payment Required", "Subscription Incomplete": the plan is not active until the payment goes through. Use "Update payment method".
- "Limit reached: 10 active tasks": wait for one to finish.
- Prices are in US dollars. A card can be declined by your bank for reasons 8frame never sees; Indian cards have extra rules for repeat payments.
1. "Queued · needs a plan"
Browsing, building boards and writing prompts work without a plan, but generating does not. If you press generate without an active plan, the pricing window opens and your generation is kept as "Queued · needs a plan", with the line "Your generation is queued. Subscribe to run it."
What happens to it:
- Nothing has been sent or charged. The generation stays in your browser until you pay.
- It waits for 24 hours in that browser.
- It runs on its own after a successful payment. When you come back from checkout, 8frame checks your plan again over the following seconds and starts the queued generation once the plan is active.
- You can drop it with "Remove from queue".
In Clips the same moment reads "Your clip is ready to render": your scenes are saved, and they render once you pick a plan.
A new account starts with no credits, so this is the message every new account sees on its first generation. Plans start at $19 a month for 1,000 credits.
2. "Not enough credits, top up to continue"
Your plan is active, but the run costs more than your balance. Every generation is priced before it starts, and if the balance does not cover it, nothing is charged. Clips checks your balance before it spends anything on a clip.
Fix: pick a cheaper setting (a shorter clip, a lower resolution, a draft model) or add credits. Credit packs (from $10 for 1,000 credits) are offered to accounts with an active plan; they add to your balance on top of the monthly credits. What each setting costs is in AI video credits explained.
3. "Payment Failed", "Payment Required" or "Subscription Incomplete"
These banners mean the plan exists but is not active, so generating is blocked until it is:
| Banner | What it says | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Payment Failed | "We couldn't process your payment. Please update your payment method to continue using 8Frame." | A renewal charge did not go through |
| Payment Required | "Your subscription requires payment. Please complete payment to continue using 8Frame." | A payment is outstanding |
| Subscription Incomplete | "Your subscription setup wasn't completed. Choose a plan to get started with 8Frame." | The first checkout did not finish |
Fix: press "Update payment method" and use a card that works for online payments in US dollars, or choose the plan again. If you left checkout before paying, the app says "Checkout was canceled. You can try again anytime."
4. "Limit reached: 10 active tasks, please wait for some to finish."
Every plan allows 10 generations at once, counting the ones waiting to start and the ones running. The next one is refused before any credits are taken. As soon as one finishes or fails, a slot frees. Slow models hold slots longest; see why is my AI generation stuck.
Generations started through the MCP connector count toward the same 10, and MCP generations also have a daily credit cap per account, so an agent can stop being able to start runs before your balance is empty.
Paying from outside the US
8frame's prices are in US dollars, and checkout runs on Stripe. If your card is declined there, Stripe's documentation names three ways a payment fails: the card issuer declines it, Stripe blocks it as high risk, or the request itself is invalid. For issuer declines, Stripe says the issuer's own automated systems decide, using signals such as spending habits, account balance and the card details. That decision is your bank's, so 8frame cannot see the reason or override it. Stripe also notes that when it blocks a payment, some cards may still show the issuer's authorization for the amount on the statement, though nothing was taken, and the issuer usually removes it within a few days.
Practical checks, in this order:
- Your bank app. Look for settings that allow online, international or foreign-currency card payments, and turn them on for this card. The charge is in US dollars.
- The billing details. Card number, expiry, security code and address must match what the bank has.
- A second card. A different card, even from the same bank, can go through when the first does not.
Cards issued in India. India's central bank requires an e-mandate for repeat card payments such as subscriptions. According to Stripe's documentation, the mandate is set up once with extra authentication such as 3D Secure; you receive a pre-debit notification at least 24 hours before each renewal, with the option to decline it; repeat payments above 15,000 rupees need authentication each time; and Stripe collects a renewal card payment 26 hours after it is requested. Without a mandate, the renewal is declined. Stripe also lists cases where a mandate cannot be set up: the issuer does not support e-mandates yet, or does not support them for the payment's currency. If renewals keep failing on an Indian card, try another card, and approve the pre-debit notification when your bank asks for it.
FAQ
Why does 8frame ask me to subscribe when I press generate? Generating needs an active plan. Your generation is kept as "Queued · needs a plan" and runs after you pay; nothing is charged before that.
Do I lose my generation if I close the pricing window? No. It stays queued in that browser for 24 hours, and you can remove it from the queue yourself.
Can I buy credits without a subscription? Credit packs are added on top of an active plan. Without a plan, generating is not available.
Why was my card declined? Usually your bank's decision, which 8frame cannot see. Check that online and international payments are allowed on the card, that the details match, or try another card.
Why do my renewals fail on an Indian card? Indian cards need an e-mandate for repeat payments, and some issuers do not support one for every currency. Approve your bank's pre-debit notification, or try another card.
