What changed, and what it means
The resolution YouTube recommends went up to 4K, and the desktop size limit went up to 50 MB. The minimum did not change much: anything 640 pixels wide or more is accepted. In practice:
- Make it 16:9 at 3840 x 2160 if you can. It stays sharp on large screens.
- 1920 x 1080 still uploads and still works. It is above the minimum; it is just not the recommended size.
- Upload from a desktop. The mobile app's 2 MB cap forces heavy compression on a 4K image.
- Verify the account first. Without verification, you choose from YouTube's auto-generated suggestions.
Making a thumbnail with AI
