Correction, 2026-10-02: an earlier version picked models with claims we have not measured: that Seedance 2.5's reference images keep a product accurate, that Hailuo H3 is the model for camera moves, and that Kling suits reveals and lifestyle shots. The picks now rest on price, resolution, inputs and our measured generation times. It also said every model here makes 9:16 (Kling v3 follows the shape of its start image, and the Hailuo H3 node opens at 16:9), quoted Gemini Omni Flash's 8-second price next to a speed measured on 3 to 5 second clips, left Kling's output resolution unstated, described Seedance's rejection of close-up face references more loosely than our tests support, and said Merge Videos joins the clips of a three-minute Short without saying it takes 2 to 10 clips and trims each one to at most 15 seconds. The YouTube rules (three minutes, square or vertical, the Content ID block past one minute, Shorts thumbnails at least 640 pixels tall and added only in YouTube Studio on a computer) were re-checked on 2026-10-02. It also did not say that the merged file has no sound: Merge Videos drops the clips' own audio, so a Short with sound is assembled on the Video Editor timeline.
Correction, 2026-10-01: an earlier version said Kling offers 9:16 when generating from text, without saying which Kling. On 8frame, Kling v3 needs a start image and follows its shape; 9:16 from text alone is Kling 2.6 Pro.
Correction, 2026-09-29: an earlier version of this page described a July 2026 test of five models with per-clip timings, and said Kling v3 and Veo 3.1 deliver 4K. We cannot support the test or the timings, and on 8frame Veo 3.1 delivers 1080p and no model delivers 4K. The page now uses our measured production times, the resolutions 8frame actually sends each model, and corrected cost arithmetic.

What a Short needs from a model
Vertical from the start. Wan 3.0, Seedance 2.5, Veo 3.1, Hailuo H3 and Kling 2.6 Pro offer 9:16 from a text prompt. Kling v3 needs a start image and follows its shape, and Wan 3.0 and Hailuo H3 also follow the shape of a start image when you give them one, so start from a vertical still. Check the shape on each node before you run: the Hailuo H3 node opens at 16:9. Generate vertical rather than cropping a landscape clip, so the framing is composed for a phone. Shapes per model are in AI video aspect ratios by model.
Motion from the first frame. Put the action in the first clause of the prompt: subject already reaching, camera already pushing, steam already rising. Then check the first second of every draft and keep the ones that already move.
Cheap variants. Testing several hooks only works if a draft costs cents: ten 5-second drafts cost 240 credits on Wan 3.0 at 480p and 1,570 on Seedance 2.5 at 720p. That is why the draft-then-finish split below matters more than the choice of a single "best" model.

Wan 3.0: cheap drafts
24 credits for 5 seconds at 480p, 48 at 720p, 95 at 1080p, and clips from 2 to 30 seconds. Its default is 1080p, so set 480p for drafts. Use it to test hooks and cutaways, then regenerate the winners at a higher resolution or on another model. Details in how to use Wan 3.
Kling v3 and Kling 2.6 Pro: short waits
Kling v3 Standard costs 86 credits for 5 seconds with audio and 57 silent, runs 3 to 15 seconds, returns 720p and needs a start image; v3 Pro costs 114 with audio. Kling 2.6 Pro is 47 silent and 95 with audio, returns 1080p, and works from text alone. Seedance 2.5: shots built from reference images
157 credits for 5 seconds at 720p, 70 at 480p, clips from 4 to 30 seconds, and up to 9 reference images on the canvas. Use the references to show the label or the character the hook depends on, and check every take against them. In our data a 5-second 720p clip took about 287 seconds at the median (about 127 at 480p), so draft at 480p and keep 720p for the takes you publish. One caution: in our August 2026 tests, ByteDance's filter rejected reference images with a close-up face on both Seedance 2.0 and 2.5, while waist-up and full-length shots of the same person passed; see Seedance "flagged as sensitive" (E005). Hailuo H3: 2K, the highest resolution here
88 credits for 5 seconds, 176 for 10 and 264 for 15 (it runs 5 to 15 seconds), delivered at 2K, the highest resolution on 8frame alongside Creatify Boreal. If the Short rests on one slow push-in or orbit, it gives you the most pixels of these picks; the node opens at 16:9, so switch it to 9:16. Veo 3.1: 1080p with audio for the hero
448 credits for 8 seconds with audio (224 silent) at 1080p; Veo 3.1 Fast is 168 at 1080p and Veo 3.1 Lite 54 at 720p. The Veo tool opens on Fast, so switch to Standard on purpose. Median generation times on 8frame over 120 days, from how long AI video generation takes: Gemini Omni Flash about 35 seconds for a 3 to 5 second clip, Kling v3 Standard 60 for 5 seconds, Seedance 2.0 about 205 for 7 to 11 seconds, Seedance 2.5 287 for 5 seconds at 720p, Hailuo H3 343 for 15 seconds at 2K. Veo 3.1 and Wan 3.0 are not in that measured set. If turnaround matters, Gemini Omni Flash had the shortest median: its node opens at 5 seconds and 16:9 for 85 credits, it returns 720p, and it also offers 9:16.

A long Short is built from several clips. Merge Videos joins 2 to 10 clips for 10 credits, but trims each one to a maximum you set between 1 and 15 seconds (5 by default), so raise it before you run. It joins the picture only: the merged file has no sound, so the audio your clips were generated with is dropped.
