The best free AI video extender in 2026, if you want to lengthen a clip you already have without signing up, is Magic Hour: its free tool "adds 4 seconds to your clip", needs no account, and draws on a shared allowance of 3 free video generations a day. Google Flow (with daily credits) and Kling (from its Standard plan) also extend, but only clips their own models made: Flow says "You can currently only extend Veo generated videos", and Kling's guide covers "AI-generated video". Gemini Omni 1.1 extends in 10-second steps up to 40 seconds in total. On 8frame there is no free generation; extending your own uploaded clip by 5 seconds costs 27 credits on Hailuo H3 Max Turbo Extend at 768p, about $0.27 at pack rate.
An AI video extender reads the end of a clip and generates what happens next, so a 5-second shot becomes a 10-second one (an expander, by contrast, widens the frame without adding time). First question: is your clip AI-made in that same tool, or a file you are uploading? Most free routes only cover the first case.

The picks
Magic Hour: the quickest free extension of your own clip
Magic Hour's extender page says "Upload a video and extend it with AI, free, no sign up", with uploads up to 200 MB. "The free tool adds 4 seconds to your clip", and "Extensions use the shared allowance of 3 free video generations per day, no account needed." There is no prompt on the free tool ("it's fully automatic"); signed in, you can "add a prompt to steer style or action". The new footage goes "to the end of your uploaded video". Its own guide says "Paid subscriptions and credit packs permit commercial use and remove video watermarks", so plan on a watermark and personal use only on the free tool. A free account adds "400 signup credits", plus 100 credits a day for up to 7 claims.
Pick it if: you have a short clip of your own and want to see 4 more seconds today, without an account.
Google Flow: free credits, Veo clips only
Flow's help centre is clear on the limit: "Important: You can currently only extend Veo generated videos." You click Extend under the clip and "describe how the action should continue". Its model page says "All Veo 3.1 8s videos can be extended, but you must use Veo 3.1 Lite to extend them", while its credits table also lists an Extend price for Fast (20) and Quality (100); Lite is 10 Flow credits. On free use the pages disagree: the credits page says "With or without a subscription, you receive 50 Google Flow credits per day", and the getting-started page asks you to be subscribed to Google AI Plus, Pro or Ultra. During "roughly 2 PM to 5 PM UTC" you may not be able to generate without a subscription, and in India, South Korea and Vietnam a visible watermark is applied automatically unless you are on the top Ultra plan. Your original is kept: "you don't lose the original video."
Pick it if: your clip was made with Veo in Flow and you want to add a few seconds with your daily credits.
Gemini Omni 1.1: the longest stated total
Google's developer post for Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash (2026-08-27) says "You can extend videos in 10-second increments up to a total cumulative length of 40 seconds", and that the model "can now analyze up to 10 seconds of prior context", where earlier models "only referenced the final second". The Gemini API docs add the rules: uploads for extension "must be 10 seconds or less", "Extension is limited to appending to the end of the video", you "cannot extend an uploaded video where someone is talking to add additional dialogue", and extending uploads is not available in the EEA, Switzerland and the UK. The same docs also describe "a 3–10 second continuation", so expect up to 10 seconds per step. In Flow, Omni extension is listed as "coming soon".
Pick it if: you are building on the Gemini API or in Vids and need one shot to run past 30 seconds.
Kling: up to three minutes, from Kling's own clips
Kling's quickstart says "The AI-generated video can be further extended by 4-5 seconds and allows for multiple continuations, reaching a total length of up to 3 minutes." It has two modes: "Auto-Extend" needs no prompt, while "Customized Extend" lets you describe the continuation, and Kling warns that "unrelated text may cause a camera cut or transition". The guide covers AI-generated video only. Kling's plan table lists Basic as "$0; free forever" with "No monthly Credits", and says Basic output "is not for commercial use"; the same table lists "video extension" among Standard's benefits and not on Basic, so plan to pay for this one. Standard is $6.99 for the first month, then $8.80, for 660 credits.
Pick it if: you generate in Kling and want one long continuous take, step by step.
Vidu, PixVerse and Luma: controls, but check the price first
- Vidu's extender page says you "set the extension length from 1 to 7 seconds", write how the scene continues "from the last frame", and can "add one optional end frame" so the continuation lands on a final look. Its page does not state free use, and its pricing page did not render for us.
- PixVerse's extender "analyzes the ending segment of a source video" and accepts "an uploaded external video or a PixVerse-generated source video", MP4 or MOV, "50 MB" and a "30-second" source limit. PixVerse's own info page lists the free web plan at "60 initial credits, and 30 daily credits", and Standard at $10 a month with "watermark-free output". It does not say what an extension costs in credits.
- Luma's pricing page lists "Extend Video (SDR)" from "360p - 20 credits/5 sec" up to "1080p - 400 credits/5 sec" on Ray3.14, but it shows no free plan: the cheapest is Plus at $30 a month for 10,000 credits.
What an extension costs on 8frame
8frame has two tools that extend a clip you upload or one you made on the board. A credit is about $0.01 at pack rate.
Hailuo H3 Max Turbo Extend. Your source clip can be 1.625 to 60 seconds long, up to 50 MB, MP4, MOV, WebM or M4V, with an aspect ratio between 0.4 and 2.5 (so tall 9:16 phone clips fit). You choose 1 to 15 seconds of new footage, and you pay only for those new seconds, never for the length of the source:
| New footage | 480p | 768p (default) | 1080p | 2K |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 s | 17 | 27 | 54 | 108 |
| 10 s | 34 | 54 | 108 | 216 |
| 15 s | 51 | 81 | 162 | 324 |
On the provider's side, the default output is the source and the new footage as one video, and the model keeps the source's own soundtrack.
Grok Imagine (extend). Pick the extend option in the Grok Imagine tool. The source clip must be an MP4 of 2 to 15 seconds, and the extension is 2 to 10 seconds, always at the 720p rate. It is billed on the new seconds plus the length of the clip you feed in, so a long source costs more:
| Source clip | +5 s | +10 s |
|---|---|---|
| 5 s | 54 | 102 |
| 10 s | 61 | 108 |
| 15 s | 68 | 115 |
The provider returns "original + extension stitched together" as one file.
What 8frame does not do. Gemini Omni Flash on 8frame edits a clip at its own length (3 to 10 seconds) but does not extend it, and Veo 3.1 on 8frame has no extend mode. If you only need a longer timeline rather than new footage, the Montage node joins 2 to 10 clips for 10 credits, but the merged file has no sound, so add dialogue and music in the Video Editor timeline instead. 8frame has no video upscaler, so extend at the resolution you will publish.
So a 5-second phone clip turned into 15 seconds costs 54 credits on Hailuo at 768p, or 102 on Grok in one 10-second step. Trim the source first on Grok, since its length is billed. We have priced these tools but not measured their output on 8frame, so we quote prices, not quality: try one short extension before a long one. Failed generations are refunded automatically. 8frame output has no watermark on any plan, and commercial use is cleared on paid plans.
Getting a clean extension, on any tool
- End on motion that can continue. The extender only sees the last seconds, so a shot that ends mid-action gives it something to carry on; a hard cut or a fade at the end gives it nothing.
- Describe what happens next, not the whole scene. PixVerse's own advice: "describe the continuation rather than summarizing" the clip. Kling warns unrelated text can cause a cut.
- Short steps, then review. Every vendor here extends in steps (4 s, 1 to 7 s, 10 s). Check each step before adding the next one.
- Watch the join. Google's docs say some of the final frames of your input video are edited to smooth the transition, so compare the last second of your original with the result.
FAQ
