Coming soon on 8frame. A Clips node on the board, which opens a full Clips project over the canvas and brings the finished video back onto the board, is not released yet. Clips and the canvas both exist today as separate places. This page covers how to move work between them now and how the Clips node will work when it ships. No date is announced.
Most short videos start as stills. A team agrees a look on a board (the product shot, the face, the location, the light) and then has to turn it into motion with a script, scenes and a cut. The handover is where things slip: the approved references get re-uploaded somewhere else, the script lives in a different tool, and the finished video never makes it back to the board where the decisions were made.
What exists on 8frame today
The canvas. A board where you place image, video and audio generation nodes, wire your own uploads in as references, and keep every result next to the prompt that made it, with real-time collaboration and comments.
Clips. 8frame's clip maker. You describe the video, add your own images as references with @ (such as a face, a product or an environment), and Clips drafts a script. You can refine the script, and when you confirm it, Clips generates the video. You can start without an account; generating the script needs you to sign up.
Assembly on the canvas and beyond. The Montage node joins 2 to 10 clips for 10 credits a run, using at most 15 seconds of each, and its merged file has no sound. For anything with dialogue, music or sound effects, cut on the timeline of 8frame's Video Editor mode, which has video, text, caption and sound layers, or in your own editor. See how to use Merge Videos.
How to hand work from the board to Clips today
- Settle the look with stills. Nano Banana 2 (the node's default) is 11 credits per image at 1K; Nano Banana Pro is 21 at 1K or 2K. Approve one frame per key element: the face, the product, the place.
- Download the approved stills (Original in the download menu gives you the stored file).
- Open Clips and add them as references with @ as the face, the product or the environment.
- Write the brief in one or two sentences, then read the drafted script before you confirm it. The script is the cheap place to fix the story.
- Bring the result back. Upload the finished clip to the board next to the stills it came from, so reviewers see the chain.
If you would rather animate stills directly on the canvas, video nodes do that today: Kling v3 Standard animates a start image for 86 credits for 5 seconds with sound (57 silent), at 720p; the Veo tool opens on Veo 3.1 Fast, 168 credits for 8 seconds with sound, in 16:9 or 9:16. What is coming: Clips as a node
The Clips node will remove the download and re-upload steps.
Creating a project from the board
Clips will be an app in the board's «+» catalog and right-click menu. Placing a Clips node will create a new Clips project tied to that board and that node.
The standard Clips screen, over the board
Opening the node will show the same Clips screen you know, as a full-height surface over the board, with «Back to board» to return. It is the same Clips, not a cut-down copy, so the script, the references and the scenes work as they do today.
References by wire
Images wired into the Clips node will arrive in Clips as references by role, such as face, product, screen, environment, wardrobe or style. You will be able to change the roles inside Clips.
Results in both places
The finished video will land in Clips, as today, and in the node's output on the board, as versions (v1, then v2), so the board keeps the history next to the stills it came from.
States you can read at a glance
The node is planned to show where the project stands: empty (open Clips to start), briefed (a script is approved and it can render), rendering, done, out of date, and failed (with "credits not charged" and Retry).
Changes on either side, never by surprise
- An edit made inside Clips will mark the node on the board as out of date.
- If you change an image wired into the node, the node will offer «Update the project» as one action. Nothing will change by itself.
- Detach will unlink the node from the project. The node keeps its last output, and the clip stays in Clips.
Right-clicking a Clips node is planned to offer Open in Clips, Render again, Show versions, Detach from clip and Delete.
Guests
Clips without an account stays as it is. The plan is also to let guests write a script on the board before signing up; rendering the video will still need an account.
The same catalog will bring image apps and agents onto the board. See relight, retexture and upscale on one board and AI agents as teammates on a creative canvas.
FAQ
Can I open Clips from the canvas today?
Not as a node yet. Today Clips and the canvas are separate: download approved stills from the board and add them in Clips as references. The Clips node is coming soon.
Will the Clips node be a different Clips?
No. It is planned to open the standard Clips screen over the board, so scripts, references and scenes work the same.
Where will the finished video appear?
In both places: in Clips, and in the Clips node's output on the board, as versions.
What happens if someone edits the project in Clips?
The node on the board will show that it is out of date. Changing a wired image will offer «Update the project»; nothing changes on its own.
Does the Montage node keep sound?
No. Montage joins 2 to 10 clips for 10 credits and returns the picture without sound. Use the Video Editor timeline for anything with sound.
