Relight, Retexture and Upscale on One Board (App Catalog Coming Soon to 8frame)

How to chain AI image finishing steps (relight, retexture, edits, background removal, upscale) on the 8frame canvas today, with credit prices where published, and how image apps will work as nodes from one catalog when the new add path ships.

Coming soon on 8frame: one catalog with an Apps section, shared by the «+» button and the right-click menu, where image apps behave exactly like generation nodes. That part is not released yet. The tools themselves (Relight, Retexture, image upscale, background removal and image edits) are on the canvas today. This page covers how to chain them now and what will change when the new catalog ships. No date is announced.

A generated image is rarely the final image. The light is close but wrong for the product page, the material reads as plastic when it should be linen, the file is too small for print, or the background has to go. In many tools each fix is a separate app: download, upload, adjust, download again. Each hop loses the link between the result and the image it came from, and a colleague reviewing the final cannot see the steps.

A node canvas keeps the chain visible. The source image, every step and every result sit on the board, wired together.

What is on the canvas today

These image tools are on the 8frame canvas now:

Tool What it does Credits
Relight Lighting transfer: takes your image and a lighting reference image, and applies the reference's light; 1K, 2K or 4K Shown in the app
Retexture Surface and texture transfer: takes your image and a texture reference image; 1K, 2K or 4K Shown in the app
Flux Edit (FLUX.2 pro) Edits an image from a written instruction 7 for a roughly 1 MP input, more for larger inputs
Kontext Max Image edit 13
Background removal Removes the background from an image 12
Image upscale, Topaz (the tool's default) 4x precision upscale 11 per started 24 MP block, up to 281
Image upscale, BRIA Increase Resolution 2x or 4x, content-preserving, up to 8192 x 8192 6
Image upscale, Clarity Always 2x on 8frame; diffusion-based, so it can add detail 13

Two limits to plan around: there is no video upscaler on 8frame (all three upscalers are image-only), and background removal is image-only too.

For choosing an upscaler, see what AI upscaling is, Topaz vs Clarity and the best AI upscaler in 2026.

A finishing chain you can build today

  1. Generate the hero. Nano Banana Pro is 21 credits at 1K or 2K; Nano Banana 2 (the node's default) is 11 at 1K.
  2. Fix the light with Relight. Pick a reference image whose light you want (late sun through a window, a hard studio key) and wire both in. The reference is used for its light, not its content. Check the result at full size before you go on.
  3. Change a material with Retexture, when the form is right but the surface is not: the same chair in walnut instead of oak. Wire in a texture reference.
  4. Make one written fix with Flux Edit if something small is left ("remove the cable on the left"), 7 credits for a roughly 1 MP input.
  5. Cut it out if it has to sit on a layout: background removal, 12 credits.
  6. Upscale last. BRIA (6 credits) to enlarge without new detail; Clarity (13) if some added detail is welcome; Topaz for a 4x precision pass, priced by the size of the result.

Upscale last because every other step works on the pixels you give it: Flux Edit costs more on a larger input, and an edit after upscaling can undo the detail you paid for. We have not measured how each tool treats a particular image, so check every step at full size (Original in the download menu) before the next one.

What is coming: apps as nodes from one catalog

The new add path will put every app, model, brand and agent in one catalog, reached from several doors.

One Apps section, one way to add

The «+» catalog in the bottom panel and the right-click menu will show the same sections in the same order, with an Apps section after Import and before the generators. Its rows are planned to include Relight, Retexture, image upscale, background removal, ShotGrid and Montage, each with its "from" price in credits, and a new Recolor app. There will be no new icon in the left rail. Apps will also be listed in the Library's Apps section, separately from models.

Apps will behave like generation nodes

An app node will look and work like any generator: the same node views, its settings in the inspector, and results landing in its paired output node as versions. Relight and Retexture will be drawn as utilities: an input strip for the source and the reference, and no prompt field to fill in, because the app already knows its job.

Right-clicking an app node is planned to offer Open in Studio with these settings, Save as snippet, Copy settings and Paste settings, and on Relight and Retexture, Swap inputs for when the source and the reference went into the wrong slots.

The same catalog will hold agents, brands and Clips. See making a video project from the board and one library for a team's AI assets.

FAQ

Can I relight an image on 8frame today?

Yes. Relight is on the canvas and in Studio today: it takes your image and a lighting reference image and outputs 1K, 2K or 4K. What is coming is the new catalog and node layout for apps.

What is the difference between Relight and Retexture?

Relight transfers lighting from a reference image; Retexture transfers surface and texture from a reference image. Both keep your source image as the starting point.

Which upscaler does the canvas use by default?

The image upscale tool opens on Topaz, 11 credits per started 24 MP block for a 4x precision pass, up to 281. BRIA (6 credits, 2x or 4x) and Clarity (13 credits, always 2x) are the other options.

Can I upscale video on 8frame?

No. All three upscalers are image-only, and there is no video upscaler. Generate video at the resolution you deliver.

Will the new catalog change prices?

The catalog is planned to show each app's "from" price. We are not announcing prices for the new Recolor app before it launches.
